Modern Vintage Art Redo

I just finished this project yesterday, and I was too excited about it to wait until next week to post it! I loved Abby's Modern Vintage Art , but I wanted to add some of the teal color into it. At first I was just going to change the bow in the little girls hair to a teal one, but slowly I ended up change everything. (Isn't that how most projects turn out). Well you know me, enough chit chat and on to the pictures ;)

I LOVE the soft airy feel going on in her room now!

Here are some closeups of each piece!!!

I added the same trim I used on the Ric Rac Cuff Sheets over the black velvet. I think it looks like a completely different frame with the teal finish on it!

For the Little Girl, I changed out the background to one that matches her Photo Art Blocks. The color is a little darker in this picture than in real life.

For the Little Boy's picture I changed out paper to again match the Photo Art Blocks. Then added a pink bow tie!

I LOVE the way these turned out!!! From the teal distressed frame to the real metal keys and locks ! Much better than the before paper version!

This cute hair bow holder I made yesterday to go in the middle, it fills the space so much better than the smaller frame. I hot glued the ric rac on the inner grove of the frame, then added the lace across the back.

Here is a close up of the fabric flowers I added to the bottom corner! :) They make me happy, and Abby too. She keeping going in her room and saying ooooh pretty flowers. :D

One last picture of that side of the room! It is finally coming together.

Oh I forgot I haven't done a post about her closet makeover ;) Well that is coming soon my friend.
I have a few more projects I want to tackle still.

- lace bunting

Ric Rac Bed Sheets

The last two weeks I have had so much fun decorating Abby's big girl room!!! :) I wanted to share one of the easy projects I did to add a pop of color to her bed. I was inspired by these adorable Ric Rac Cuff Sheets by Pottery Barn Kids.

I just loved the look but the PRICE and the colors were not going to work for me! So I went to Hancock Fabrics and bought 2 packages of medium size Ric Rac and 3 yards of teal blue trim. First I sewed the ric rac on right over the cuff line on the pillow case and the top sheet. Next I sewed the teal trim over the ric rac letting it peak out just a little bit!

Here is the pillow case all done! Now I just need to get Abby's name added to the cuff!

I LOVE the Teal and Pink together!!!!

She LOVES her big girl bedding!!!

I am so excited to get the rest of her pillows done and her upholstered headboard!!! :) So what do you think?

Exciting Things Happening Here

Hey guys, it has been a crazy month around my house, with Greg gone for his predeployment training, and with adjusting to single parent status. Greg has a week off in March before shipping out!!! I am excited and so sad at the same time. I will get to see my husband, but this will be the last time. :(

But thankfully God is always there sending little blessing our way to make our struggles bearable. I have had quite a few of these! Like Becoming Martha hitting 200,000 page views last month. Thank you so much for all your sweet comments, and encouraging words! I would of stopped blogging months ago with out YOU!

If that wasn't great enough news I was emailed that Abby's nursery took 3rd place out of 100's in a Unique Baby Gear Ideas Nursery Contest! Not only could I NOT believe we even place against the amazing competition, but also we won a $100 gift card to Amazon.com!!! SWEET!!!! I already bought Abby's twin bedding and will have a post on that as I finish her bed! The contest starts every Jan. and goes until the end of Dec. I entered in July, so it is never too late to enter. Also there are so many wonderful ideas on this PAGE! 1st place is $500 Amazon gift card! It is worth the few minutes it takes to enter, believe me I didn't think I had a shot in the dark!

Paisley and Pokadots

This week I have been working on my boot pattern and it was a big FLOP! :( Hopefully I will come back to it soon and try to tweak the pattern! Then I got the exciting news that my best friend Lauren had her sweet little girl! :D This brought me out of my sewing funk! Here is the gift set I make for sweet little Ms. Alana Kaylynn Smith. Did I mention how much I LOVE sewing baby things!?!

I always start with the burp cloths. Designing them gives me a direction to go with the rest of the set. I even added two more new ideas, the newborn charm bracelet, and the CUTE sun bonnet!

For this onesie I added ruffles to the bottom. I have always wanted to do that! I think they are just precious!

Here is a close up of the burp cloths. I love how the lace really brings out the femaine qaulity of them! They look like they are were make for a princess (which they were ;) haha!).

Baby tutu's are so easy to make and I think they look so cute in pictures!!!

Here is a close up of the frayed rose hair pretty or tutu clip I made!

I like to cover the clip with ribbon, so that it has no hard edges on the baby.

My ruffled bottom onesie!!! I love it!

Did I tell you much I LOVE this bonnet!?! The pattern was so EASY!

Little baby ballet flats trimed in the same lace!

I started beading too! It is so fun and it takes no time at all!

DIY Ruffled Denim Ballet Flats

This week I sized up my pattern for Abigail's ballet flats, and figured out how to make a sole!!! I found thick shelf lining at Walmart, it sews wonderfully and adds a lot more sturdiness to the soles of her shoes. Abby was all about the sass today! haha I just have to laugh at these next few, two year olds...

She is actually watching TV in this one haha.

I finally got a smile out of her when, Cole was being silly to make her laugh!

Here are a few close-ups of these shoe, p.s. Did I tell you that I am just in LOVE with them. They seriously make me want to make a pair for myself! haha Her shoe collection is bigger than mine!

This pattern is super easy and I can whip out a pair in about an hour! Not to shabby if I do say so myself. I went to Hancock Fabric's today and picked up so cute material to play with over the weekend! Hopefully I will have some cute BOOTS to show off next week!!! Wish me luck.

Photo Art Blocks

Hello everyone! I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas. I am so excited to show you the AMAZING Project I have been working on!!! It turned out just as I pictured it in my head, which makes me even happier! Ok, enough chit chat. On to the project...

I started with the same steps as the Easy Art Blocks. I went to Lowes and had them cut down a
12 in x 4ft board down to (4) 12in x12in boards ( I needed 5, but already had an extra one at home ) total cost $3. Next I set all 5 on top of cups ( I know it looks kind of Ghetto, but it worked) haha ;) This made it easier to paint all 4 sides.

While sides are drying, lay out your paper and photo combations to find which pattern is going to work the best.

After all the sides are painted and dry you can mix your watered down glue to make a thin paste like this...

Paint it on and let dry for a minute, until it is tacky. Once tacky add 12x12 scrapbook paper (trimmed to fit each block) I like to use my Pampered Chef Scraper to get any air bubbles out.

Then I added the distressing to the sides. I couldn't find my beloved Distessed Ink pad so I just used some of the espresso paint mixed with glaze.

Add photo corners and 8x 10 print and you are good to go!!!

The BEST thing about this project is not only is it easy but CHEAP! You can always change out the 8x10 to get a whole new look, that is the GREAT thing about using the photo corners!

   Wood $3 (Lowes)

   5 8x10 pictures $9 (Snapfish using 50% code)

   5 scrapbook pages $2 (hobby lobby)

   Photo corners $0 (had from scrapbooking)

   Paint and glue $0 (had from old projects)

       TOTAL= $14

World's Best Peanut Butter Cookie Recipe

I am going to re-share my go to "Worlds Best Peanut butter Cookie Recipe" with you guys again today! I am linking it up to the CSI Projects Cookie Exchange! Here is my my same post about them from last month! P.S. I just made them this morning again for a Ladies get together, and everyone wanted the recipe! ;) They are just THAT GOOD!

I wanted to share this AMAZING peanut butter cookie recipe I have used for years! I can't tell you the number of positive comments I have had on these cookies! They are just that good! I mean the recipe calls for a WHOLE jar of peanut butter, how can they not be awesome? Ha ha! They are crisp on the outside and super moist on the inside. If you like hard cookies this is not the cookie for you, but if you attack the cookies as soon as they get out of the oven (like I do) just to get the soft, melt in your mouth goodness, then here is the recipe for you! ;) I copied and pasted the recipe here, but this is the link to it on allrecipes.com.

1 cup butter, softened
1 cup white sugar ( I have used 2 cups white sugar and they still turned out great!)
1 cup packed brown sugar
2 egg ( I use 3 eggs, so I don't waste.)
1 egg yolk
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1 (18 ounce) jar peanut butter
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup chopped peanuts ( I don't put peanuts in mine.)

In a large bowl cream butter, white sugar, and brown sugar until smooth. Add the eggs, yolks, and vanilla; mix until fluffy. Stir in peanut butter. Sift together the flour, baking soda, and salt; stir into the peanut butter mixture. Finally, stir in the peanuts. Refrigerate the dough for at least 2 hours.
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Lightly grease a cookie sheet.
Roll dough into walnut sized balls. Place on the prepared cookie sheet and flatten slightly with a fork. Bake for 12 to 15 minutes in the preheated oven. Cookies should look dry on top. Allow to cool for a few minutes on the cookie sheet before removing to cool completely on a rack. These cookies taste great when slightly undercooked. ( First I use a cookie scoop and leave them in mounds to bake for 10 minutes, then I pull them out to put the fork indentions on top, and bake for another 3 minutes for perfection!!! This way they keep the fork indention, because a peanut butter cookie is NOT a peanut butter cookie with out them!) :)

The Lovely Teal Dresser

I have been busy, busy working on Abby's vintage dresser! My sweet friend Casey gave it to me a few months back. It is beautiful... but I was really craving some COLOR in Abby's Monochromatic room! My inspiration came from...

this beauty.

Then I found this one, that is my dresser's twin! I just LOVE the distressing and blue grey color. Pinterest is AMAZING!!!

My first task was to fix something that bothered me from day one! The missing wood applique that is suppose to be in the middle of the second dresser drawer. It just killed me that the beautiful engraved detail just stopped on both sides of where the applique should be. I decided I would just use my Dremel tool and finish it myself. Which could actually work, or just RUIN the whole thing! ha ha As luck would have it, it worked!!! Here are the basic steps I took.

1. I traced the design I wanted on to the drawer with a sharpie.

2. Then I very slowly dremelled following my curvy line.

3. Next was the FUN part, prime, paint, glaze, and add 3 coats of Polycrylic. The Color turned out AMAZING!!! I added cute knobs from Hobby Lobby at $1.50 each and I am DONE!

I picked two different knobs because the the size of the drawers. The top ones I chose a cute little pink knob with bronze center, and the bottom knob is larger white one with pink dots on it! They look so cute together!

Slip-On Furry Leg Warmers

I just wanted to post these cute pictures I took of Abby today modeling her new black furry leg warmers. I finished the cape too! She is going to wear it at church tomorrow :D Let me know if you like the leg warmers and I will make a tutorial. :) They were pretty easy, and I want to make her a white pair too! Feast your eyes on this cuteness! LOL

DIY Baby Doll Crib

I know it has been a while since my last post, we just found out my husband will be deployed at the end of January to Kuwait. It was very unexpected, and I am still trying to cope with him leaving. I know that he will be just as safe here as he will be overseas (you never know what day will be your last)! It is just that I am going to miss him so much!!!

Ok enough of the mushy stuff and on to the project... ;)

In a few weeks we are going to transfer Abby into her own twin bed, that I am going to build!!! Right now she is sleeping with Cole in his, because she will NOT sleep in her toddler bed. Well, I was going to sell her toddler bed or put it in the attic, until I got the idea to make it into a doll crib! Genius I know, right? LOL! It was so easy and took under an hour!

First, I took the foot board off by taking out the bolts.

Then I cut down the rails to the 4th side post. Then all I had to do was use screws to reattach it to the foot board. Easy peasy. I am going to cut down her nursery bedding to use in this mini crib, that way it will make it even more special! The best part is.... it was completely FREE!!! What a great Christmas idea, right?

Here it is with her bedding just folded and tucked in to make it fit, but I will post an update when I finish sewing the bedding! :)

Here is where the AWESOME part comes in ... Lowe's did almost all my cutting for me! I had him cut the 5 1/2 in board down to 42 inches, and 32 inches. ( Because of where my studs were on the wall I could not fit 3ft and 4ft shelves.) Next he cut my trim to 44 inches and 34 inches and 4 pieces at 6 1/2 inch (to leave room for the miter cut) I only had to do 8 miter cuts at home, which saved me some serious time!

After we thanked Travis for his great costumer service we were back in the car and home in 45 mins flat for the total trip. Talk about instant gratification! Next I made the 4 miter cuts and used my brad nailer to nail it together in 20 mins, we are doing good! I found the can of stain from our kitchen cabinets and added one coat to the brackets with a foam brush. I really wanted to stain my brackets to play on the contrast from the shelves and tie into my cabinets since they are right across from them!

While they dried I caulked all the holes and cracks. I left it over night to dry and painted it with 2 coats in the morning. My canned tomatoes were perfect for painting blocks. Next, I found where my studs were and hung both sets of brackets, then added the white shelves on top, and shot 2 brad nails from the top into the top of the brackets. Now it was time to decorate...

Rag Doll Tutorial

Ok Ladies, I finally put together a tutorial! I have had so many of you ask me to do one, but between our family pictures and vacation last week I just didn't have time to post. Well here it is the Rag Doll Tutorial.

Here is my pattern, it is very simple.

How I came up with it was, I folded a 12x12 scrap book paper in half making it 6x12. Then I traced out my doll shape. A oval head with fat hands and feet. :)

I love doing patterns like this because then I know both sides are exactly the same! After unfolding my doll came out to be 11in.x 7in. Which is a great size for little ones to handle :)

Next I folded my skin colored fabric in half and traced my doll pattern.

I like to save time by cutting both sides out together. I left about a 1/2 inch seam allowance, I did a zig zag stitch right over my traced line. I left a 2 1/2 in. to 3 in gap at the top of the head to turn it inside out, like a pillow.

Once it is inside out you can start stuffing! I like to stuff the feet and arms first then continue from there.

Once you are happy with how full and plush the doll is you just sew the top shut.

Trim the excess and your little guy or girl is ready for hair!!!

Here is my favorite part, customizing it to look just like your little cutie! I used felt for the hair since it doesn't fray! I also stitched hair strands in a dark color to add a little more interest. Sew the hair like a hat with a seam running down the sides of the head. turn inside out and hot glue it to the top of the head. I also like to put a few stitches it, just so I know it isn't going anywhere.

To make this hair style I started with cutting out the shape of the hair sewing around the top and side edges. Next I turned it inside out and cut out the face opening and bangs. I wish I would of took pictures of this process, but I was doing a different hair style for each doll, so I didn't make any patterns.

Creating a Family Look

Well I am back with some awesome pictures to share! The fence was a success!!! Amy our photographer LOVED it so much she wants to buy it! ha ha ;) The hardest part was pulling together a family look that didn't look too matchy matchy. I first found material that had all the colors from our living room in it (because that is where the pictures will be hung). I made Abby a skirt from it, and made a cute flower pin for her little brown sweater. If you would like I could do a tutorial on that, just let me know ;) Next I found Greg and Cole's shirts from Target, and I already had the brown jacket from Cato's... It was finally coming together. I hung all the outfits on the fence, just to see if it was going to pull out the blues and reds. It looked great so we were good to go!

I thinking having a GREAT photographer is definitely the KEY to amazing pictures! Amy from Murphy's Memories Photography was awesome with our kids!

It is that time of year already? Fall Family Pictures :D Well we have been super busy here getting things together for our family photo shoot. I am so excited, we are going to do it House of Smiths style! I just needed to find the perfect background. I got this 6ft x 8ft fence panel at Lowe's for $20 and finished all the coats of paint this afternoon. I am really loving all the colors. I wanted it to look like it was 100 years old, and the paint was fading and weathered. Here is some pictures I took of the kids just to see if the colors on the fence were going to be noticable.

The Paper Project

Wow! has it really been two weeks since I last posted?! Well, I have a ton of projects to share with you this week! To start with... I wanted to add color to Cole's bedroom and make it look less grown up. Thankfully, my Cricut and eight dollars in scrapbook paper :) came to my rescue!!! It took about 30 minutes for the Cricut to cut out all the letters and numbers, and about an hour for me to hang them. I used a 300 ct. box of small glue dots to hang them.

I found all these frames at good will for $1- $2 each. Then, just using my cricut and scrapbook paper, I made these cuties. The little girl and boy I found on google and printed them out, cut, and traced them onto the back of black scrapbook paper. Then I just cut them out and glued them onto the patterned scrapbook paper! Easy Peasy.

I saw the Child of God art on Etsy for $20, but I knew I could copy it for cheaper. I did 5 pink scrapbook papers at 49 cents each and the black velvet backside of the frame, which plays off the black velvet matting on the high heel picture. I think I will tie a black velvet ribbon in a bow around the key, when I find one. ;) For now I am calling this wall, DONE!

A Little Lace for a Lil Lady

* OK, so can I start out by saying WOW!!!! WE reached 50,000 page views in 3 1/2 months!!!! I am so happy I could just BURST, really! What a huge blessing it is to be able to share with you my projects. The love and encouragement I receive through this blog is unmeasurable!!! I LOVE each and everyone of my *223 followers*! Thank You.

I am sure you guys are like... another BABY GIFT POST!!! haha I told you we had a ton of pregnant ladies in my church. :) Well This gift is for a sweet friend of mine Ying and her husband Lue, who is Greg's new golfing buddy. Pray for me GOLF is an expensive sport! LOL Their sweet little girl Lilyanna Yang is due next month, and her shower was this past week. I wanted to get away from all the pink with this gift, so here is a purple and lace themed gift set.

I started off by making this cute headband. When the other mothers saw it, I knew I would be making a few more of these beauties for their cuties! I think Abby's would look super cute in one too... ummm I am just adding to my already long list of projects. :)

Next I made a tutu with the same frayed flower and covered button, but I added lace around the edge as a finishing touch. Can I just say LACE is awesome!!! It added so much character to this tiny little tutu! Want to make your own... just follow my tutorial here. I use ribbon for newborns, so they can be tied loosely around the baby's tummy. I sized mine by matching it up to one of Abby's old newborn skirts.

Personalized burp cloths are my favorite gift to make! Because they are so EASY! You can get a pack of 12 for $6! I like to give sets of three, two solid and one personalized. Cut out a rectangle 1/4 inch larger than the center of the burp cloth. Press sides under, pin, and stitch on to burp cloth. Easy Peasy!

Transportation Art Knock Off

I first went to Lowe's and bought my old faithful (plywood shelving board at $2. 92) I also had them cut it down for me to 12in. x 12in. squares. I only need 3, so I had one more for a later project. :)

Then I added a thin layer of watered down Elmer's glue, let it tack up, and then added the white scrapbook paper. I distressed the edges using my favorite crafting tool ( I <3 My Distress Ink Pad )

Here is the hard part... I had to free hand the actually boat, truck, and plane. I wish I would of made the truck a bit longer and not so wide, but over all pretty happy with it! I really wanted my pictures to have the same hand painted feel as the Pottery Barn set, so I got out my little paint brushes and copied each one exactly.

With my center pictures done all I needed to do now was add the lettering with was EASY with my Circut! ( I cut the letters out using the Plantin Schoolbook font cartridge) I used the same watered down glue technique to add all the elements together on the plaques! Add picture hangers to the back and my knock off is complete! Here are both together. What do you think?

New Tables and DEAL ALERT

Ok so here is the deal, when we bought our house we took measurement of our bedroom to make sure our new furniture would fit. Well it did, but we had to put it on the window wall. After living with it this way for 18 months we learned a few things. Not only was it hard to open the drawers to the dresser because the bed was too close, but one of the night stands was over the vent.

Hot summer + vent covered= one HOT Momma!

Well 2 weeks ago I had ENOUGH, and I moved my bed on the "bed wall" The one without a door or window on it. We LOVED it, the room opened up so much! The dresser has lots of space, but ( I know there is always a BUT) something was off. Only one night stand would fit and our closet doors open. :( I was really bummed for a day or two, but then Greg said lets just get new tables. I LOVE this man! After searching the web, and craigslist for days I found these babies at Target for $27.99. ( I was going to add a link to target, but they repriced them to $70.00 again) We looked at them last year when they were $75 and loved them, so to find them on clearance and still in stock was a huge surprise! ( and major blessing) Here they are in the room!

I FINALLY was able to size down Abby's ballet flat pattern to a newborn size! Here it is next to a store bought set. The writing on the inside of the shoes are names of different flowers, including roses ;)

I loved the way these turned out, but I still wanted to add ribbon to help keep them on those sweet little baby feet!

I think the pink sheer ribbon adds another touch of class :)

I only got one burp cloth done :( ( I still need to finish the other two and a cute outfit! )
This was my first time doing layered embroidery! I really like the way it turned out, with my normal sewing machine.

I didn't get a picture of the hair bow holder under the shoes. I just used a wooden plaque I had and painted the edges. Next I added scrapbook paper to the top of it, and add two ribbons hanging down to clip her hair bows on! Easy Peasy!!!
And... Here it is in the striped green box, all ready to be closed up and wrapped with thick pink satin ribbon and a huge bow! Did I tell you how much I LOVE making little girl stuff!!!

I spent about $10 all together on this gift, but I put a lot of LOVE and work into it!

It might be easier if I had something other than my cell phone to take pictures for my blog. ;) Oh and I want to share with you the cutest clips ever!!! I won on giveaway at Far Above Rubies a few weeks back. ( I never win so it was awesome) I picked out two mini flexi clips and a necklace. I am just IN LOVE with these clips, really! I have worn them very day. LOL They go all the way up to extra large and hold really long heavy hair, so if you are looking for some cute hair clips stop by Lilla Rose and talk to Paula Ramm she will hook you up! ;)

Backpack Love

Today while I was at Walmart with the kiddos (Anyone else visit Walmart on a day to day basis?) we walked past the back to school section. Cole got so excited and ran to the backpacks on the end cap. He grabbed one off and put it on. Then he looked at me with his big brown eyes and said "This is my backpack Mommy". I knew he was in love and it would be a nightmare to get him to put it back. Luckily it was only $4.99 (score) and it was a pretty cute pattern (double score)!!!

On a side note... I am the only Mom that tries to convince their kid to pick something else when they pick up the ugliest one? ha ha

Ok back to the backpack. ;)

I got home and I was looking at a Pottery Barn Kid Magazine lusting after all the COOL kid stuff in there, when I thought of personalizing his backpack. I didn't want to go to the store so I pulled out my stash of goodies...aka scraps from other projects. I found navy blue and white felt, and the Wonder Under I used to make the kids Super Hero Outfits.

First I used my Word program to pick out a font and trace it on paper. After that I ironed Wonder Under on to the back of the navy blue felt. I cut the letters out of the paper and traced them backwards on to the back of the felt.

Next I cut out each letter. Once that was finished I peeled the backing off the navy blue letters and ironed them onto the white felt.

I took another piece of Wonder Under and ironed it onto the back of the white felt, then cut a thin border all the way around the navy blue letters. Pretty easy right.

Line it up onto your backpack and iron it on.

*I used another piece of felt over the iron so it would have contact with the backpack material.*

It's a Bird, It's a Plane, it's...

Wow... We had an action packed week! My parents, brother, sister and her family ALL came to visit it us last week! We had 7 adults and 4 kids squished into our little 3 bedroom house. Not to mention it was SUPER HOT outside! We had a blast. The main reason for everyone coming was to have a double birthday party for Cole and my niece Liz. The theme we came up with was SUPER HEROES!
I looked all over to find the perfect invitations and party decor. I want it to be all the super heroes not just one character, and I wanted it to have an old comic book feel! Well guess where I found exactly what I was looking for... WALMART! I know crazy right, and it was $.97 for each item table cloth, 10 invites, 20 plates, 20 napkins, 4 filled party bags. etc. I was so excited! Other sets I was looking at were $25 or more for everything. Thank you Wally mart!
You know me we couldn't just have a super hero party and call it a day. Each child had to come in a super hero costume. I made the 3 girls costumes, but I found the cutest superman pjs for Cole. I figured he would LOVE wearing them over and over again!

Matryoshka Love

My latest Baby Shower Gift! My friend Hannah is having her very first baby, and it is a GIRL! She and David are such a sweet couple and I wanted to make something very special for their sweet little bundle of joy! Hannah has taken on the large task of making her own crib bedding! (You go, girl) Well, she was kind enough to give me her scraps of fabric to use for her gifts so they would be color coordinated with her room!

Here is what I was able to do with a few scraps and some other items I had laying around! The only item I had to buy was the basket, which was on clearance for $2.99! First I made a newborn ribbon tutu, little ruffled bloomers, and two frayed flowers. I made the tutu following the same steps as this one, but I made it smaller and on ribbon.

I had a onesie, but could not figure out what to do with it. I went to my favorite place to get inspiration, Etsy! After typing in "baby girl gifts" I found a pattern for Matryoshka dolls. I fell in LOVE!!! They were so cute, and I knew I could free hand my own pattern. I decided to make a softie and an applique for her onesies. Here it is all together!

Waste Not Want Not

I don't know about you, but I HATE wasting material! Even the littlest of scraps I save for an embroidery project or frayed flower. Well last week I shared my Daddy's Shirt Dress.

As you can see I only used the front and back of the shirt.

Well I still had the sleeves leftover, so I decided to make a swing shirt out of them! First I needed to even off the bottom of the sleeves and cut out the bottom portion of my swing shirt.

I unfolded it to cut the bottom evenly.

Next I used the cuff part as the top of the shirt.

I sewed the two pieces together and used thin elastic around the waist. Lastly I added a little ruffle and ribbons. Here it is finished on my favorite little model! A cute little top for free, gotta love that ;)

Pretty Little Things

Ever since we built Abby's stove I've been working on sewing her a few accessories for her little kitchen. I half way finished everything and let it sit for a few months. (Does anyone else do that?) Well last night I was cleaning her room and found my little projects stuffed into a bag in her closet. I decided to pull them out, because crafting sounded a LOT more fun than sorting laundry... ha ha

I added a some trim, ribbons, and flowers. I came up with these pretty little things! A reversible apron, reversible pot holders, a girly oven mitt, and a matching frayed flower hair bow. Abby woke up and had so much fun playing with all her NEW little girly things!

Trash to Treasure Project # 1

Today I finally go to work on one of my finds from the other day. You can see what else I found here. I have so many fun ideas for each treasure I found, but first on the list was this tall skinny shelf.

I knew I wanted to use it in Abby's room, to go with her kitchen stuff. First it needed a mini makeover! The best part about this makeover was that it was completely free! Gotta LOVE that ;) I started by giving the whole shelf a good scrubbing. Next I used leftover molding from Abby's stove project to beautify this plain shelf.

Can I just say besides my husband there is only one other man who has managed to steal my heart! His name is Brad...the nail gun and he was the best Christmas present ever! I love you Hubby. ha ha ;)

Next I used a little fast drying mud to putty the holes.

It took 3 coats of white semi gloss paint to get a smooth finish.

Now for the fun part! I added paintable wallpaper to the back of each opening. After that I used some of Abby's wall paint and I little pink glaze to do the faux finish. Here it is all complete and filled with her goodies!

Trash or Treasure

"One man's trash is another man's treasure"

This morning as I left to get some errands done I noticed my neighbor had a huge pile of stuff next to his trash can. I don't know about you but seeing that huge pile got me so excited! I got this overwhelming urge to ~~run~~ sneak over and dig through it! Haha! Well, sadly, I had to do a few things in town first, but I just knew the pile of treasures would be there waiting for me...

I hurried through my shopping and raced back home, obeying all traffic laws along the way ;-), to find...SOMEONE DIGGING IN MY TRASH! I mean...treasures. So I hung my head and went into the house to put my groceries away. I maybe peeked out the window every two minutes to see if they were GONE! (Please tell me I am not the only treasure hunter out there)

Finally they were gone! So I politely went up to Mr. Neighbor's door, rang the bell, and asked if I could look through his pile of goodies. Of course he said go ahead, and here is what I found!

I am so excited to share their transformation with you over the next few weeks! I <3 free stuff!

The Ruby Red Slippers

Ok folks, I finally got to doing a tutorial for you lovely ladies! Now you can make ballet flats too! To start off here is my pattern I use for my 18 month old daughter. She wears a size 4...

Here is how I came up with the pattern...

Using a pair of shoes and trace 1/4 inch seam allowance around sole of the shoe. Then you will have the sole pattern. I cut my patterns out of scrap book paper so they are easier to keep track of.

Next cut out your U shape. I just eyed it to come up with mine.

Here is what it looks like compared to the sole.

Now that you have your pattern. You are going to need to cut 4 soles (2 left 2 right) and 4 U shapes. Place them together in 4 stacks of 2 like so...

Next sew the sole together. (so you have one left and one right 2 layers thick)

After that sew the inside of the U's together.

Next use your iron to press the seem flat, and sew both wrong ends of the U together.

Flip the doubled U shape inside so the sewn seam is on the inside. Iron to help it keep it's shape.

Sew along the top to create a finished edge. Then starting at the back heal sew the top to the sole.

When you get to the toes put two small pleats around the tip. Turn inside out, and it should look like this...

Next sew elastic around heal to keep it from sliding down, and I added a ribbon covered elastic strap.

I added little ribbon roses to toes to decorate them! Here they are all finished.

A Sister in NEED

A few months back I went up to Wisconsin to visit my family. We stayed for 3 weeks, which was a huge blessing! I told my sister, I would spend one of the 3 weeks helping her redo her kitchen. Her house is an old Victorian built sometime time in the early 1900. I wanted to share with you what we discovered hiding behind the UGLY wallpaper! But first here is what it looked like BEFORE:

Here is a close up of the inside of the hutch. Don't you just LOVE the Toy Story styling ;) Maybe we will start a trend! LOL

The nasty peach wall paper and wood paneling was hiding beautiful beadboard!!! Who would cover that up???

It was a MESS, but so worth it!!!

I wanted to keep the old chippy paint look of it, so I gave it a base coat of a teal color.

Then added a light teal wash to highlight the weathered spots. Look at that amazing difference from straight paint to the faux finish!!!

We recolored the grout, and painted the yellow wood trim a shiny gloss white! I gave the island base the same finish as the hutch to tie the rooms together.

The inside of the cabinets were covered with wallpaper too, so we thought maybe we would luck out and have bead board behind them too. Sadly not, but we did paint and finish the chippy plaster walls the same way.

Can you believe these huge cabinets! She didn't realize the glass door were hiding in her basement! We cleaned them up, painted them, and had glass cut to fit each door. Next was the hardware! I love me some Oil Rubbed Bronze Hardware!!! The handles are to die for and the cup pulls are just so classy!

I just look the romantic look it gives the drawers.

Next project will be replace counter tops and add a back splash. That will have to wait until my next visit! :)

Measure elastic to your child's waist, and sew ends together or tie into a small knot.

I cut my strips about 16 inches ( I ended up trimming the ends down more after she tried it on)

Fold strip in half and hold loop on the inside of the elastic. Take ends and pull them through loop. Pull tight and your done. I did 1/4 of skirt blue, and 13 red and white stripes.

Mirror Mirror On The Wall

Star Burst Mirror tutorial:

I have seen starburst mirrors everywhere in blog land! I made one a few months back and thought I would share my tutorial with you!

First I bought a circle beveled edge mirror at Hobby Lobby for 50% for $3 (score)
Next I went to good Ol Walmart and bought to bags of bamboo skewers for $1 each, and a can of Oil Rubbed Bronze Spray Paint $3

I laid out my pattern on the back of the mirror first to see how it was going to look. Next I went stick by stick and used hot glue to adhere them to the mirror. After all the skewers were attached I taped off the mirror and gave the whole mirror 2 coats of ORB spray paint.

Lastly I added a picture hanging kit to the back, and here it is...

I hope this will encourage you to step out and make your own starburst mirror!

A New Addition

I have been working hard today on a shower gift for a special friend! I tried to make little loafers, sadly they were a project FAIL! It is back to the drawing board with that pattern. I got baby Remington's burp cloths and onies finished. Here they are :D

Last month I made a Cowboy themed burp cloth and softie for another friend! We have about 5 or 6 ladies pregnant in church right now, so I will be working hard to make something special for each one!

I just found a clip art picture of a cowboy boot that I liked, and made a pattern. I filled the middle of the softie with plastic so it makes a crinkle sound, as little Levi plays with it! The best part about it is that it is completely washable!

That's it for now! I need ideas for my onies designs!!! I would love your suggestions! :D

I don't know about you but I LOVE pillows! I am not sure you can really ever have too many...

Ok so maybe you can, but they are so pretty! (haha)

A few weeks ago I was at Hancock's getting something for another project, when I found this amazing bird fabric! It was $24 a yard so I put it back, and walked around a little more. Guess what I found in the $4 remnant pile, 1 yard of my bird fabric! I just love little blessings like that! ;) So I grabbed it (clutching it close to my heart) and ran to find the perfect coordinating fabrics! Here is what I came up with...

I knew I wanted one ruffled pillow in a fun texture, and the dark khaki material on the left was perfect for that. I loved the texture so much I decided to make curtains out of it also. Next I found this beautiful diamond quilted fabric and immediately pictured a Pottery Barn embroidered euro sham. I brought all my stuff home and laid it out on the bed. I really liked the look of it, so I got to work!

The bird pillow just had to be first! I made sure the male bird was on Greg's side and the female bird on my side ( I thought it was cute that they were facing each other)

I used a solid color blue on the back that has a slight pattern. If I ever get tired of my birds,(like that will happen)I can turn them around.

Next I made the curtain and ruffled pillow. I think they turned out so cute!

I just love the way they hang! :D
(ok so I just noticed how cock eyed my curtain rod is! One more thing to put on my list.LOL)

I cut the quilted material and sent it off to a little shop in Conover, NC to get embroidered. They also did Cole's pillow.

Here they all are finished! I have so many ideas for the room, it is so nice to cross one project off my list.

Can a Girl Ever Have Too Many Shoes?

I made this pattern a few weeks ago for ballet slipper flats for my daughter Abigail. So far I have only made two pairs, but I can honestly say I am in LOVE! I want to make her a new pair of shoes for each outfit she owns, which would be a lot of shoes! LOL

Squared Away

I wanted to share with you my laundry room Before and After!

Here is the before (with her dirty paint, yellow molding, and poorly assembled metal shelving)

First thing I did was replace the floor to match the kitchen, and paint the walls a little darker blue than the main part of the house. Next thing I wanted was a statement wall! So I got some decorative molding, added two picture frames, and a chair rail.

I used paintable wallpaper on the inside of the squares and gave it a faux finish. I added a darker contrasting color around the framed area to really make it POP!

I painted and distressed a ugly yellow pine shelf and filled it with Goodwill finds! The Silver box is my favorite! :) It is a great place to store lost buttons. It makes me smile every time I go in there to do a load of laundry, which is way to often! LOL

I have so many projects to share!!! I could stay up all night typing! haha BUT my babies would not be very happy with me if I did that, so you will just have to wait until tomorrow. Good Night!

Here's Your Sign

Laundry Room Sign:

I figured I would do this tutorial as well since it is so similar to the Art Blocks!

1. I went to Lowe's and bought a 4 foot particle board for shelving. I had them cut the length of the board to 4 inch strip that was 4ft long. then I had them cut (3) 4inx4in squares (3) 6inx4in rectangles (1) 7 1/2 in x 4in rectangle I used a cheap pine 1x2 and had them cut it to 36 inches. The hard part is done for you! :D

2. Next you can pick out 7 pieces of scrapbook paper (2 solid color papers for letters) in the colors you want to decorate your Laundry room in and a small bottle of craft paint ( i used espresso brown)

3. Paint edges of all squares and front and sides of 1x2.

4. Next nail the squares into place on 1x2. * make sure nail head is level with surface of square, so it wont show under paper.
the spacing is 7.5inch- 4inch -6inch- 4inch-6in-4inch-6inch *stagger them up and down also ( DON"T just nail them down centered)

5. Use craft glue watered down to a thin paste to and paint on fronts of squares and let sit and tack up before putting your paper on. Smooth paper on squares and make sure there are not bubbles. * I used a cricut to cut out the letters Laundry, but if you don't have one you could print out the letters on your printer and cut them out. then trace them and cut out on scrapbook paper.

6. Use the same watered down glue on the back of letters. you could use a glue stick too.

7. Add picture hanging kit to the back, and you are all done!

This is a super easy and cheap way to get a pop of color in any room! The whole project cost under twenty dollars! I started out by going to Lowe's and buy a 1 ft x 10 ft shelving board. Next I had them cut it down for me ( yeah I am lazy like that ;) into 12 inch by 12 inch squares.

Next I went to Micheal's and picked out nine scrapbook papers that went with my decor. I brought it all home and got to work! Lay out your pattern before hand so you can see how the papers will work together!

I painted all the edges with espresso brown paint I already had on hand. Then I used watered down craft glue to attach the paper to the wood. After that I used distress ink along the edges.

Next I added picture hanging kits to the back of each square, and hung them in a 3x3 square pattern.

I told you it was super easy! You could use any color combination you like, or for a smaller space use only four blocks. Hope this will give you inspiration to try to make something new this week!

Cole's New Digs

I know I posted a whole lot of PINK the last few days, so here is something new! My 3 year old son Cole's room! When we first moved in I painted it light blue and sadly just moved on to Abby's room! (I just love girlie stuff haha) Now it is finally getting the attention it needs! Just in time for him to move into a twin bed and get a new dresser! I found his bed on craiglist.(I am a craigslist addict, I probably check it everyday at least once!)

I really wanted bedding that would be mature enough that it could grow with him. I found this quilt set at TJ MAXX for $20. I had it embroidered at local place for $7. So $27 bucks for a Pottery Barn look-a-like (Oh sweet saving how I love thee)!

Once I had the bedding I knew I wanted to go dark with the wall color, and off set it with white board and batten underneath. Now I have seen board and batten everywhere across blogland, but it is just such a classic look I had to give it a try! So far I have two walls done and LOVE it! I just need to bite the bullet and get the last two finished!

I don't know about you, but my son just had to have a Pillow Pet for Christmas last year! LOL

Dont worry the shorty curtain panels are being replaced. I just need to decide on my fabric choice!I found a lot of his accessories at Hobby Lobby for 50% off. (I love that place!)

Last year I did a photo shoot downtown in the city where my husband is a Police Officer. I got a lot of cute pictures of Cole and Daddy, so I wanted to use them as his art work. I used $3 frames from Micheal's and scrapbook paper to make these...

I still want to make pillows for his bed like this...

The wall above his bed is going to have a very special bible verse.

Put Up Your Feet

Ottoman Makeover:

I wanted to share with you one more project I did in Abigail's room, her ottoman. When I found it last year at a yard sale for $5 dollars it looked like this...

I just fell in LOVE with those legs! I knew I wanted to paint them out white and add distress ink to bring out the curves. I just didn't know what fabric to recover it with, so I went off to Hancock Fabrics. I found this material for 50% (score)! I only needed a yard to do the whole thing.

After unscrewing the hinge I realized I did NOT get material for the inside! (bummer) Looking through my stash of fabric I found the left over material from redoing Abby's Goodwill lamp. (which I scored with the shade for $4)

The pad on top of the ottoman was very thin. I wanted it to be nice and plush, so I added 2 inches of padding. Next I traced the top of the ottoman on the backside of the fabric with a 4 inch seam allowance, and cut it out. Using my air compressor and staple gun I attached the fabric to the top by wrapping it tight and stapling it as I went. After that was done I wrapped and stapled the outside of the ottoman.

I tried to hide all the staples in the seams or corners so it looked like this...

I should of painted the lovely legs BEFORE adding the new material, so I had to tape off the fabric to protect it. Here it is all finished! (Excuse my puppy Gracie is a Diva and tries to get in every picture lol)

Hanging Around the House

Rose Balls tutorial:

I am so in love with these hanging beauties! I have made them for birthday parties, dinners, and just for that pop of fun in a room. In Abby's room I have a set of 5 hanging over her crib (now toddler bed).

I found this cool idea from Shelley on her blog The House of Smiths. To start you are going to need 1 roll of crepe paper per ball for the small-medium ones, and 2 rolls for the large ones. For the base I used Styrofoam balls I bought at Micheal's with a 40% off coupon. I have used plastic T- Balls from the dollar store as well. They come in a pack of 5 so it is a great deal!

To make the roses, cut strips about 16 inch long. After your strips are cut, you start to roll the center of the rose starting at one end. As you build your rose you are going to began to twist and wrap around the center you have created. Use your hot glue gun and dab the back under the folds to keep things tightly together. Make Roses as full as you like. Glue down the end of the crepe paper to the backside. Repeat this process with the rest of your strips.

Once you get a few do you can start hot gluing them to the ball, but make sure to group them tightly together. Using a roll of tape keeps the ball balanced so your hands are free. Cover ball completely.

After all the ball is covered, I hot glued ribbon on the top. Add a bow over the nail on the ceiling, and your done!

I also added little sprigs of pearls on my balls.

That's it! The possibilities are endless! The fun part is you can make them any color or size you want. So have fun with it!

Tutorial for Wooden Play Stove:

First my husband and I went to Lowes and bought 2 sheets of thin plywood. To save time we had them ripe the wood down into 16 inch wide strips 4 ft long. Once at home I traced the decorative back piece, and Greg cut it out using our dremel tool!

Using 1x2 we built a frame and faced it with the plywood. Here are some shots of the frame of the stove. I used Anna White directions from Knock Off Wood! If you haven't visited her site you should! She is AMAZING!!! She provides free furniture building plans.

I attached the door using cabinet hinges and magnetic closures for safety.

After I caulked and filled all the cracks it was time to paint! It took 3 coats of semi gloss white paint to get solid coverage.

Next I added a push light to the inside to add a warm glow.

I found the cutest knobs at Hobby Lobby for $1 (score) and wooden appliques.

I used decorative molding for the handle and old silver plates for the burners.

Growing a Tree Indoors

Well I had a little time tonight after the kids went to bed, so I figured I would knock out my first tutorial! Let me start by saying this is a big feature, so you really want to make sure you choose the right tree or image for you. Make sure it is something you LOVE, because it is going to be a bold statement in your room! I just googled "silhouette tree" to find one I liked. Ok now that you have a image, you need to print it out on clear overhead projector paper (or vellum paper) . Next you use a overhead projector to draw the rough outline up on the wall.

Here is what mine looked like traced in pencil on the wall.

I used cheap craft paint brushes and black semi gloss paint to fill in the silhouette

I used my Cricut to cut out the frames in two different tones of silver scrapbook paper. I layered them together, added a little distress ink to the edges, and used a pearl stick pin to hang them on the tree. I also glued on small diamonds to tie it into the monogram on the other wall.

I am so happy with how it turned out! Abby loves going up to it now and pointing out her Papa.

Abigail Grace's Princess Suite

I am so excited to start this BLOG! My husband Greg and I just bought our first house last March. We are working room by room making this house our home! My favorite kind of rooms to decorate are kid rooms! Needless to say my son Cole's room and daughter Abigail's room were the first to be done! Here are some highlight from Abby's Princess Suite!

Dollar frames turned FABULOUS! Thanks to scrapbook paper and my distress ink pad. I (big puffy heart) love that thing!

The theme to her room is Princess: Daughter of a Heavenly King so I want to add beautiful little sheep into her decor. This is how I came up with these two plaques.

And the cream of the crop... My hand painted Family tree mural! I have filled the frame, but I dont have a picture of it just yet!
