I cant tell you how many times I have heard the words " You are such a Martha Stewart" (haha) I just love crafting, diy, painting, sewing, and home decorating. It gives me great satisfaction to look around my house and say " I MADE THAT!"

Photo Art Blocks

Hello everyone! I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas. I am so excited to show you the AMAZING Project I have been working on!!! It turned out just as I pictured it in my head, which makes me even happier! Ok, enough chit chat. On to the project...

I started with the same steps as the Easy Art Blocks. I went to Lowes and had them cut down a
12 in x 4ft board down to (4) 12in x12in boards ( I needed 5, but already had an extra one at home ) total cost $3.  Next I set all 5 on top of cups ( I know it looks kind of Ghetto, but it worked) haha ;) This made it easier to paint all 4 sides.

While sides are drying, lay out your paper and photo combations to find which pattern is going to work the best.

After all the sides are painted and dry you can mix your watered down glue to make a thin paste like this...

Paint it on and let dry for a minute, until it is tacky. Once tacky add 12x12 scrapbook paper (trimmed to fit each block) I like to use my Pampered Chef Scraper to get any air bubbles out.

Then I added the distressing to the sides. I couldn't find my beloved Distessed Ink pad so I just used some of the espresso paint mixed with glaze.

Add photo corners and 8x 10 print and you are good to go!!!

The BEST thing about this project is not only is it easy but CHEAP! You can always change out the 8x10 to get a whole new look, that is the GREAT thing about using the photo corners!

   Wood $3 (Lowes)

   5 8x10 pictures $9 (Snapfish using 50% code)

5 scrapbook pages $2 (hobby lobby)

Photo corners $0 (had from scrapbooking)

Paint and glue $0 (had from old projects)

       TOTAL= $14

I can't wait to see what it will look like when I add her DIY fabic headboard twin bed and cute bedding!!! What have you been working on this week? I would LOVE to know, and stop by and check it out, leave me a comment!

Thanks for stopping by,

Jeni

  6. Found "art blocks" (and you!) on Pinterest...I've been searching for a reasonable priced idea for a very long wall in my house. I am at the glue stage and am struggling with bubbling. Any suggestions?

  7. Samantha,
Hey girl! If your paper is bubbling it maybe because your glue was still wet. You need to wait until it is tacky to the touch before putting your paper on. Also I used a scrapper to gently push the bublles out, by scrapping outward from the center! :) Hope this helps!!!

  13. Hi K joy,

If you look at the close up pictures you will see clear plastic corner tabs holding the photos onto the paper. They are used in scrapboking alot to keep pictures in place with out damaging them. That way you can change them out later if you want ;) I got mine at Walmart in the craft section! Hope you give this Project a try! If you do I would LOVE for you all to post a picture of your project on my Facebook page. http://www.facebook.com/#!/pages/Becoming-Martha/266657216691326

    Hope this helped!

  16. how did you do the distressed look on the edges? i love this project :) can't wait to start

  17. Hi I was just wondering if you could also use ModPodge instead of the glue water mix

  18. Love this! Have the boards, have the paper, but I'm baffled about the glue. What is the name of the glue I should use and where in Hobby Lobby would I find it? This is different than modge podge, right? Thanks so much!

  19. Love this idea but I am not all that crafty so I am wondering how exactly do you get the distressed look on the edges? What do you use and how do you use it? Help! Thanks!

  21. love this and the regular scrapbook boards. I didn't find boards that cheap at Lowe's or Home Depot. Mine may be a little thicker too, I thought on your other tutorial that you used something more like particle board? I am going to try the Scotch Mount instead of glue and the 3M hanging strips. I am putting in my daughters room so I may paint the edges white. I will post a pic to your FB if it comes out fab :)

  22. I am now working on this project; I found shelving boards at Lowe's that were about $13 for 12x20 and mine look thicker too but I couldn't find anything thinner. My husband cut them for me 12x12. I was also going to use the 3M hanging strips but think this will be too heavy to hang for them. So I bought the jagged edge hook things to put on the backs to hang each one. I also bought & used spray adhesive which works great and some rubber cement to attach the photos and then spray shellac to coat the finished product :) Mine is a work in progress but will post to my blog when done. Love your photo blocks; they came out great!!!

  27. You have solved my family photo problem!! For the last several years, we have had various sizes and wood toned framed photos of family members throughout the years down the hallways! Ceiling to waist. They have all been pulled down to paint hallways, and I've been looking for something special to do with our pictures of beloved family members. Lovely!! Thank you!! btw... your family is precious. Keep coming up with wonderful ideas!

  28. Do you know if you can use modge podge instead of the glue mixture? I am not very "crafty" yet and feel like I could get the mixture off.
